For reasons that are frankly beyond my grasp, Sony’s first-class Android tablets have always been viewed as underdogs stateside. Underdogs, oddities of the tab market, far too extravagant products, you name it.
The bottom line is very few people bought the spectacular Xperia Tablet Z, its grossly underrated predecessors or the spanking new Xperia Z2 Tablet. But assuming you have no personal beef with Sony, and just deemed their Xperia Tabs too expensive, Woot comes at the rescue with a once-in-a-lifetime one-day deal.
Set to expire in about 12 hours at the time of this writing (and counting), the promo slashes, according to the discount retailer’s claims, a whopping $305 off the slate’s list price. In reality, that’s more in the $160 ballpark, but I think we can all agree 160 bucks is a lot of money.
After doing some digging, the lowest we could find the 32 GB Wi-Fi-only Tablet Z was at $559.99 on Amazon. So yeah, Woot’s special $399.99 price is $160 off. Make that $190 or so, as the 10 incher is bundled with an extra free red case and screen protector.
Although more than a year old already, the 6.9 mm-thin (!!!) gizmo remains a powerhouse, thanks to a state-of-the-art 1,920 x 1,200 pix res LCD screen, punchy quad-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, 8.1 MP rear-facing camera, water protection and 6,000 mAh battery. Also, while it launched running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, it’s now powered by 4.4 KitKat. Pretty groovy, huh?
