As it is right now, wireless charging is generally more exciting in concept than in practice. Qi wireless charging is available across a variety of products to enhance smartphones and ditch cables. The problem, which is likely holding Qi back from greatness, is the technology itself. Induction charging is slow slow slow. While it’s not so bad if you’re leaving a gadget to charge overnight, half an amp during the daytime just doesn’t cut it.

Revocharge takes wireless charging in a slightly different direction by using conduction instead of induction. Powerful magnets align cases, docks, and batteries so that pin-to-pin contacts are maintained. It’s like charging at cable speed without the cable.

The Revocharge ecosystem revolves around a slim case for the Apple iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 6, or Samsung Galaxy S5 (stretch goal). Not only does this mobile case offer protection against scratches and impact, it provides the means for mounting and/or wireless charging. The locking magnets on the back of the case lets the smartphone attach to the Revocharge desk mount and external battery. Arm bands, belt clips, and bike mounts are also currently in the works.

These cases provide full access to all the smartphone ports and buttons, and add only minimal bulk. It’s totally like having your cake and eating it too. The desk mount serves to charge the smartphone and a Revocharge external battery simultaneously, while still providing sync capabilities too. When you’re ready to go, just snatch up your smartphone and the extra battery and you’ll be good to go for the entire day. MFi certification? The team already has initial approval from Apple and plans to have that certification in-hand soon.
