As Sony’s Xperia Z2 is barely three months old in a handful of global territories and yet to be “born” stateside, one would figure the question of a sequel shouldn’t even come up until next January. But the high-end mobile landscape is evolving at an unprecedently rapid pace, and Sony can’t afford to get left behind by a furious wave of impressive Quad HD flagships.
Hence, it’s no shocker the Xperia Z3 is increasingly present in the rumor mill, with the latest story, originating from Germany, suggesting the commercial release may be slated for September. No typo there, we’re not talking just the formal intro, almost surely scheduled for early fall at IFA, but also the actual sales start.
Technically, the word comes from a highly reliable source, namely Vodafone’s local German branch. But there’s no way to verify the purported “internal memo” leaked out to the press is the real deal, so caution is definitely advised.
Assuming the document is legit, both the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact (!) should hit the ground running days before September 30, when an unusual contest ends, rewarding a super-efficient Vodafone employee with a trip to New York.
Once again, no typo or misunderstanding involved, as hard as it is to believe. The Z3 Compact is mentioned, which is bizarre to say the least when the Z1 Compact is still fairly young and hot and no Z2 Compact is around.
