Motorola entered the budget market with its Moto G and Moto E. Both smartphones were also released on Indian shores, and were sold through FlipKart, a popular online retailer in India. According to a new report, the company managed to sell a whopping five million smartphones via FlipKart since the devices made their official debut in the country.
“We believe these sales figures should put Motorola among the top five mobile brands in the country,” said Sachin Bansal, founder and CEO of Flipkart.
There’s no word about the breakdown of smartphones — Moto E, G and X — sold, but FlipKart had exclusivity on the handsets. It also makes sense for the sales to reach this milestone, since they are priced competitively, and carries a price tag between Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 26,000.
The company is only selling the handsets through online channels, and there’s no word if the handsets will hit physical stores. But, it doesn’t make sense at the moment, since people are purchasing the handsets online.
