It’s been a bumpy, rocky, painful road for Sony in its effort to bring at least one of the two smoking hot Xperia Z2 devices on a US carrier, but all’s well when ends well, and starting today, the Z2 Tablet can be had via Verizon. The Z2 phone? It’s still up in the air, although Big Red is tipped to (ultimately) pick that up too.
Back to the LTE-enabled 10 incher, let’s mention it costs a fairly sensible $499.99 on a two-year agreement, a slightly steeper $599.99 outright, and $29.99 a month with Verizon Edge. The last payment method allows you to cough up nada upfront, but beware, 20 months of constant hassle await.
On the bright side, once 60 percent of the gizmo’s price is paid off, you can start thinking about an upgrade model. Not that you’d need it so soon, since you’re really looking at the cream of the crop in the Android tab arena, circa mid-2014.
You get water protection, a wasp waist, stunning 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution screen, quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 chip, 3 GB RAM, 8.1 MP rear-facing camera, beefy 6,000 mAh battery, 3D surround sound system, the whole shebang. And Wi-Fi-only versions are pretty hard to come by stateside, not to mention costly, so Verizon’s exclusive deal with Sony is a gift from whatever mighty deity rules over the Android kingdom. Bless you, Big Red.
