Droid-Mini-Droid-MaxxFor a smartphone manufacturer that everybody knows isn’t doing well financially, its very future depending on acquisition sanctions from federal agencies, Motorola is sure a lot in the spotlight, with an abundance of news stories and reports on discounts and especially imminent releases.

But oddly, the purported Moto X+1 and shady Moto G2 have so far completely stolen the thunder of Droid Maxx and Mini’s logical sequels. Which, if recent history is any indication, could break cover as early as this month.

So how come no one’s had anything to report on the “Abbagoochie” and “Valocia” fronts? No one cares, you say? Oh, but you will, when hearing both handhelds should pack quad-core Snapdragon 801 heat.

Renowned tipster @evleaks vouches for the scoop, him being the first insider to unravel the two devices’ funky codenames. For the record, an abbagoochie is some sort of savage little animal with characteristics familiar of an owl, fox and deer, and Valocia, well, we have no idea what a Valocia is supposed to be. Something big, beefy, muscular, with a lot of spunk and energy, we’re guessing.

Back to the Snapdragon 801 gossip, let’s mention it’d be quite a step forward from the dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chips currently running the hardware show on the 2013 Droid Maxx and Mini. Hopefully, Verizon begins selling these promising follow-ups before leaves start falling, and pricing sweet spots are achieved. Fingers crossed, everyone.
