Great news, AT&T customers swimming against the tide to snub the iOS/Android duopoly, your stubbornness and patience may pay off really soon, as the freshest version of Windows Phone is in advanced stages of testing and due out “as early as this week”.
As the first WP 8.1 over-the-air updates have made their way to a handful of European markets last week, AT&T’s turnaround time is remarkable, leaving Android users contemplating their regularly doomed fate and long waiting periods.
Of course, Ma Bell can’t possibly bump up all its Windows devices simultaneously, so odds are the higher-end Lumia 1520, 1020 or 925 will open the festivities, with the 920, 820 and 520 then following suit.
Unless Microsoft favors popularity over high-tech hardware, in which case the best-selling Lumia 520 could well be AT&T’s Windows Phone 8.1 curtain raiser. In any case, I’d like to point out the optimistic “this week” forecast comes from one of the network’s forum managers, who’s also a Ma Bell employee, but not really a higher-up.
So while I suspect “ATTMarianaCM” knows full well what she’s talking about, there’s an outside chance she jumped the gun.
Remember, all Nokia Lumias will move from Windows Phone 8 to 8.1 with an exclusive set of additional goodies in store, dubbed Cyan, which improves functionality and overall performance drastically, pretty much bringing the Nokias for the first time ever close to Androids in these departments. A+ for effort, Microsoft, and A+ for urgency, AT&T, if today’s story pans out.
