Leaker extraordinaire @evleaks has cultivated quite the bogeyman reputation of late in regards to mobile device manufacturers desperately trying to keep a lid on inside information relating to unannounced gear.
Yet somehow, his stream of leaks is as stable and destructive as always. Today, it’s Sony Xperia Z3’s turn to prematurely make headlines with its likely legitimate but unconfirmed list of features. Also, underwhelming.
Granted, I partly agree with the growing opinion that continuously engaging in the so-called “spec wars” is pointless and unproductive. But if you feel like you’ve reached the point of no return, the point of no significant upgrades, why not just stop until you’ll be able to truly innovate?
What’s the point in delivering a half-assed Xperia Z2 rehash with the same quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip under the hood, same Adreno 330 GPU, same 3 GB RAM, same 20.7 MP rear-facing camera? Oh, pardon me, Z3’s CPU is tipped as clocked at 2.4 GHz (vs 2.3 on the Z2), and the rear snapper will probably be tweaked with new add-ons that transcend the megapixel count.
Also, the Full HD display is slightly smaller (?) this time around, at 5.15 inches, possibly sporting slimmer bezels and thus accommodating a larger usable real estate area. But that’s nowhere near enough a flagship sequel’s minimum satisfying requirements. Hopefully, for once, @evleaks has no idea what he’s talking about. Don’t laugh, a boy can dream, right?
