Confirmation has just come from Samsung that its Galaxy S5 Mini will be available for purchase in the U.K. starting August 7.
The smartphone is called the “Mini” because it is a somewhat smaller version of Samsung’s flaghship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. Despite its size, the Galaxy S5 Mini still boasts an impressive mid-range spec list, complete with a 4.5-inch 720 HD display, 1.4Ghz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, and a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera. For the sake of comparison, the larger S5 model includes a 2.5Ghz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and a 16-megapixel camera. Both models, however, come with the same fingerprint scanner, as well as a heart rate monitor.
Its price has yet to be revealed, but from August 7, the S5 mini will be going on sale in the U.K. from “selected online and high street retailers, including Samsung Experience Stores and Carphone Warehouse.”
For younger consumers, there’s the Samsung Young 2. This low-end Android handset will feature a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 1GHz single-core processor, and a 3-megapixel camera. It also comes with Samsung’s updated TouchWiz UI, and the latest of Android KitKat (4.4).
The Young 2 will be on sale the week after the S5 mini’s launch in the UK. Its price has also yet to be announced.
