It looks like those “insiders” who tipped us off on Microsoft’s selfie-focused smartphone seeing the light of day as soon as August may have been off by a month or two. A pair of pretty high-res photos allegedly starring the Nokia Lumia 730, aka “Superman,” made their way online earlier today, showcasing the first glimpse of a so-called Lumia Debian Red firmware.
Apparently, that’s the codename of one of Windows Phone 8.1’s upcoming incremental builds, either designating Update 1 or Update 2. More likely the latter, in which case the Lumia 730 could go official in October, maybe November.
Unless, that is, Nokia Microsoft is simply putting Debian Red through some preliminary testing, and [easyazon-link asin=”B00CB99MXO” locale=”us”]Lumia 720[/easyazon-link]’s sequel will break cover with standard WP 8.1 pre-loaded. Either way, the selfie champion looks much bigger than its predecessor, reportedly sizing up 720’s 4.3-inch display to 4.7.
Screen resolution is tipped at 720p, while the cameras, which should be the main marketing focus and selling points, carry 8 and 5 MP sensors, with Carl Zeiss optics on the rear and yet-to-be-detailed software optimizations and add-ons on the front.
In case you didn’t notice, the pre-release Superman prototype pictured is coated in a very bright shade of green, although if you don’t dig the glistening color, you’ll be able to choose one of the white, red, yellow or black versions.
