Uber fans in the Santa Monica area can now order lunch through the Uber app and have it delivered via uberFRESH, the company’s new food delivery service. A trial is being carried out in the Santa Monica area, and during the trial, people will be able to order lunch for $12 between 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
The available food options are switched every day, and refreshed every week, but people will be stuck with whatever is on the one-item menu for a particular day.
UberFRESH’s trial period will run from today to September 5, and Uber says it may continue and expand the service if people like it. UberFRESH will only be available on weekdays, and the service will be shutdown on any holidays or weekends.
Uber says deliveries take place around 10 minutes after an order is placed, but the delivery is curbside rather than to a person’s door. The only fee associated with the service is the $12 for the lunch itself, since Uber users do not have to pay for delivery or to tip the driver.
This is just one of a few services that Uber has begun trialing around the country. Other services, like Uber Corner Store, bring corner store items, instead of food, to people’s houses in the DC area.
