Plantronics today announced new wireless active noise-cancelling headphones with enhanced battery power. The over-the-ear BackBeat PRO Bluetooth headphones are available for $249.99 and promise 24 hours of listening time on a single charge.
The company claims the headphones use a “unique dual-mic solution” that draws in background noise and eliminates it. If you don’t want to be completely ignorant of your surroundings, however, that feature can be turned off with a button press, with music pushed to the background and amplified environmental sounds to “have a conversation with a coworker, listen for your boarding call, or answer a fellow commuter without having to remove your headphones.”
The headphones, which feature 40mm dynamic drivers, are said to offer up to 21 days of standby power, and up to six months in hibernation. An included 3.5mm cable serves as backup to the battery.
The company claims the headphones’ enhanced Bluetooth technology can stream music from up to 330 feet away from your smartphone or tablet — 10 times the usual distance. They also offer NFC pairing with Android devices.
The headphones have sensors that automatically pause music when they are removed and resume when put back on. The sensors also “unobtrusively whisper” updates on connection status, battery life, incoming calls and more.
The earcups fold flat and come with a durable nylon travel sleeve.
