Unlike Samsung, Sony, LG, Asus, HTC or Huawei, which have all confirmed and teased their presence at the IFA tech expo in Berlin, Lenovo is yet to come forward with any kind of formal confirmation for product announcements early next month.
Good thing our lines of communication with insiders and tipsters are wide open, and according to “sources in the know”, a bunch of new Lenovo gear is headed for market starting in September. There’s a mysterious wearable piece in the works, a Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, between two and five fresh Android smartphones and, last but not least, a new 8-inch slate.
A slate running Android 4.4 KitKat, rumor is, but with a processor inside the hood that’s more common in the Windows space. That’s right, an Intel Bay Trail-T. Specifically, the Atom Z3745, clocked at 1.33 GHz and capable of reaching speeds of up to 1.86 GHz thanks to Turbo Boost technology.
Now, Bay Trail chips may be known primarily for their frugality, but they’re no pushovers in terms of raw speed either, and this Lenovo Tab S8-50 looks destined for a spot closer to the top of the Android totem pole than, say, the IdeaTab A-Series’ humble goals.
Made of a textured plastic, based on leaked photos, the tablet is quite slim and sleek and apparently packs 2 GB RAM, 16 GB built-in storage space, as well as all the connectivity works, from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth to optional 4G LTE.
Screen resolution remains a mystery, and so does battery capacity, while the rear-facing camera is unusually skillful for such a large gadget: 8 megapixels, autofocus, flash, f2.2 wide aperture. And just when we thought next week’s IFA schedule couldn’t get more packed and exciting.
