LG’s introduction of a sleek, elegant, rounded G Watch R wearable piece a measly few months after the launch of the original, rectangular G Watch sure caught a lot of people off guard. Including, we’re guessing, LG’s retail partners, which immediately sensed danger.
Even if the G Watch R is to cost $100 north of its predecessor, it’s hard to imagine anyone would prefer the rough-looking, geeky, massive first-gen G Watch once the sequel starts selling. So retailers want to strike while the iron is still… moderately warm, no doubt prepping a number of deals and promotions.
Best Buy has already acted, shaving a cool 50 bucks off the timepiece’s initial recommended retail price. That means you can now grab a titan black or white gold Android Wear-supporting gizmo for $179.99. Decent promo, although in all honesty, it actually offers modest $20 savings compared to the lowest price on Amazon: $199.99.[easyazon-link asin=”B00LB2ZQ3C” locale=”us”]the lowest price on Amazon: $199.99.[/easyazon-link]
Also, keep in mind there are other options in the same ballpark, like [easyazon-link asin=”B00LTR5HP6″ locale=”us”]Samsung’s $200 Gear Live[/easyazon-link] or the aging [easyazon-link asin=”B00FH9I0FQ” locale=”us”]$140 Galaxy Gear[/easyazon-link]. That is, if patience isn’t your number one quality, because in addition to the $300 or so G Watch R, the Moto 360 is coming, probably at $250, and the Asus ZenWatch could start as low as $200.
Not to mention Apple’s iWatch, albeit knowing the Cupertino big kahunas, profit margins should be much greater.
