If you’re an avid gamer, or one who likes to enjoy movies in the quiet comfort of headphones, then 3D Sound Labs has what can be your best unbirthday present ever. Ever. The company has just opened up pre-orders for their NEOH smart 3D headphones on Kickstarter, with deliveries anticipated to commence this summer.
Why is this so cool? For the same reason that 5.1 or 7.1 sound systems are so popular. The multiple sources of sound create a very enjoyable, immersive experience that you can’t get from mono or stereo. The NEOH smart 3D headphones basically wrap a home cinema around your ears.
This technology is made possible with the hardware and free NEOH player (app) together. Without the app, the NEOH headphones perform like your best pair of Bluetooth wireless ones. But lets talk about the 3D aspect.
The mobile app takes the audio source and delivers it to the headphones with the intended audio channels. So if you’re watching a movie that has 5.1 surround sound, the NEOH smart 3D headphones replicate that experience. You will hear sounds coming from the intended source directions. But it also goes one step further beyond that.
Gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometers are packed into the NEOH headset to measure and transmit your head movement. As you head moves back and forth, the headphones adjust the audio relative to the screen. Just like if you were sitting in a ring of floor-standing speakers.
With normal headphones, the sound follows the headphones themselves. With NEOH, the sound maintains and delivers from a fixed source, such as a movie or video game in front of you.
