The Netflix movie download service has been “Indefinitely postponed†while the company sorts out legal issues with Hollywood studios. The news was made public as Chief Executive Reed Hastings told analysts on a conference call on Wednesday.
It will probably be a while before we see the service re-emerge since it is clear that the movie studios aren’t ready for such a change. The company stated that the technology will continue to be developed and enhanced and “will be ready to launch when the content climate begins to thaw.”
The service is definately needed and could be easily integrated into products like Apple’s new Front Row, and the Microsoft Media Center. Possibly movies on the iPod coming soon? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
