There’s been speculation for sometime of a Mac mini media center, with PVR functionality. According to Phil Schiller, Apple senior vice president, the company is “not trying to replace the TiVo.” He also mentions “This is about taking the media from your computer and accessing it via the TV.”
We’re still going to stand behind the rumors that were released pre-Macworld and say that Apple’s long-term strategy involves going after your TV programming. With a simple “flick of a switch,” they can turn the mini from a media sharing device to a PVR. Seems like the next logical step.
Schiller also was quoted saying that adding video recording functionality to the Mac mini would make it “too complicated.”
