This is a unique looking Samsung cell phone, with an OLED display on the outside cover. What is an OLED? It stands for organic light emitting diode. The OLED has been around for a few years, and includes a very thin LED layer made up of an organic material.
Samsung has not announced which cell service will be used, but rumor is that it will be Sprint. With a 1.3 mega pixel camera, a microSD memory slot, and video and music on demand, it looks like it will be a good device. The analog clock look on the outside cover mixes high tech with old-school.
Other applications are also be considered. Arctechnica talks about the application of the OLED technology in many other applications, which are even more interesting than the cell phone display. They talk about a transparent version of the OLED, which can be used for heads-up displays for cars and for surgeons. The applications are unlimited for OLED, especially if it brings down the cost of LED TVs into the hundreds of dollars instead of thousands.
