You would think that in a time when almost everything is customizable, and the Sidekick target market are artists and other creatives, Danger (the makers of the Sidekick) would allow you to play away. Well that is not use case, until now. There is not a Zipped file floating around the web that allows you to create and manage custom backgrounds and themes for your device.
How to? Well all you need to do is find the file here, modify a text file, drop a few images via USB, and now your SK3 feels like it is yours. You better do this quick because it can be locked up at any point.

alls u do is make a folder on ur memory card and name it themes, then go to sk3themes.com and download anything u want. so when u choose 1 click open and then drag that folder to ur themes folder on ur memory card. it took me less then 5 minutes to figure out

Ok, hook up your kick to the computer, open your memory card fil, creat a new folder called themes. now. go to sk3themes.com, download whatever themes you want, when you download them make sure you download them to desktop. now when your kick is hooked up and your themes folder is made, right click on the themes you downloaded from the site, click open with, then click Compressed (zipped) Folders, now drag that little folder into the themes folder, sounds complicated but if you just try at it it works

i tried what trupia said but it is still not working for me. i am getting a new computer today so i will see if it works on the new computer for my SK3. hopefully it will but if it does not i don't know what i will do then.

LISTEN!!! its really easy to put back grounds on the sidekick 3, go to http://www.sk3themes.com to get the themes and once you get too that site, go to Help under Categories at the bottom… it describes it really easily!!!
Nobody explained that when you download the theme to the sidekick, you're supposed to do that by EXTRACTING the file using winzip or whatever zip file opener TO the theme file in your sidekick.
DO NOT extract it to the desktop and then drag and drop. That will not work.

Hi I've downloaded one theme but now when I try to download another one it asks me for a password when I'm at the extract wizard and it won't let me transfer them to my sk3! Does anybody know what's wrong? Thank you
Ok all the steps people have described here are 100% correct. I have a sidekick I should know. Ok, hook up your kick to the computer, open your memory card fil, creat a new folder called Themes. now. go to sk3themes.com, download whatever themes you want and UNZIP them to desktop. now that your kick is hooked up and your themes folder is made, drag your unzipped theme into the themes folder that should be in your sidekick.
THE FINAL STEPS LADIES AND GENTS:
Disconnect your sk3, go to your jump screen, hit the MENU button scroll down to backgrounds. Pick your theme, And (hopefully) walla, your theme appears.
If you can't get this then God bless your soles.

yes u need a minisd card….u should have one cause it comes with the sidekick when u buy it…
after you put it on your mini sd card. you have to go to your kicks menu then go down to backgrounds, then select w/e the theme is called to enable the theme

This is step by step instructions on how to set it up.
you have to extract the files to your minisd into the themes folder. make sure the theme has its own directory. once you put the files into your minisd card make sure you remove your usb cable. it disables the minisd through the phone if your usb cable is connected. if you disconnect your usb cable and do not see your theme, then your theme files are corrupted.
ok one question u can create a folder in the memory card on the sk3 itself?
1. DownLoad the Zipped Folder to your desktop
2. Attatch your SK3 via usb to the computer.
3. Make a folder on the SK3 titled "themes".
4. Unzip the file you choose into the themes file..
5.Your done

I really don't know how to download backgrounds for my sk3. Plus I am 2 lazy to get up and get it from my computer. I think you can't get it from ur internet on ur phone right? But I will try to go on my computer and try this stuff out. I just wish that a download catgory for backgrounds was in my download catalog. I wouldn't have a even have a problem. Plus I wouldn't even be here giving comments by how doing this and that. Anyway that's it 4 me. I will wait till I know how to do it DAMMIT!

Heyy I have the sidekick III and I downloaded the themes right, but then when I turned off my phone they dissappeared and now they won't come back when I plug it back into the usb cord.. Jaden was right, it works, I went to sk3themes and i put it on my desktop. i created the theme folder and when I unplugged it, it was there under themes/backgrounds, only thing was, i did not have to unzip anything, I put the folder from my desktop right into my memory, peace

Its a simple 3 step process, thy even give you non tech savvy people a GUI. In fact you don't even need a GUI to do this.

hey guys. so I got a new laptop and my laptop has Windows Vista on it, not XP like I used to had (I had NO problems uploading themes to my Sidekick 3 using XP) & whenever I upload a theme on my computer I follow all of the steps up to extracting and when I go to extract it to the themes folder on my Sidekick 3, it keeps saying I already have a file with the name of the theme and it only gives me 'Try Again', 'Skip' and 'Cancel' options, and nothing to override it.

Everytime i connect my sidekick 2008 to the computer i upload the theme then i click and drag to my phone and press sync but when i diconnect the phone theme never uploaded
For those of you still not figuring out the theme process first go to the website you want to get you theme from. Then go ahead and download it to your computer. after you do that take your sidekick and connect it to the computer either wait for the thing to pop up and click on open folder or go to my computer and click on it from there to open it. Once you have your sidekick folder opened you will see 2 folders you will need to make a new third folder. That folder you will name "themes" without the quotes. once you make that folder click on it to open it up and make a new folder with the "new theme name." for example i have one theme called "fantasy world" so i called my new theme folder that. then i clicked on that folder to open it up from there i went to the theme folder i downloaded to my computer and opened it up. I then took my mouse and highlighted everything in the folder and clicked and dragged and dropped into the folder i name "fantasy world" after i did that i closed my sidekick folder and went to my computer clicked eject and took sidekick off computer. I then clicked the left top button and scrolled down to backgrounds and clicked on fantasy world and there it was. If you still dont understand i will be patient enough to walk you through step by step feel free to email me.
Also if anyone knows if i can download games from my computer to my sidekick please email me i really want to get some games on my phone the rocket one i have beatin so many time lol
