It’s another groovy How To from ExtremeTech. This time they’ve pieced together a “less expensive” gaming rig costing around $1540 once assembled (or $2075 including a new keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitor). OK, their last one was more than $4k, and they’ve gone as low as $800, but this one actually looks like it’s fairly affordable and will last a while longer.

Their cobbled system includes:

  • CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 ($313)
  • Motherboard – ASUS P5NSLI ($108)
  • Memory – Corsair TwinX 2048MB PC2-6400 ($280)
  • Graphics Cards – 2 x PNY 7900 GS 256MB ($398)
  • Sound Card – Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer ($89)
  • Hard Drive – Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATA ($95)
  • Optical Drive – Lite-On SHM-165H6S DVD+/- DL ($43)
  • Case – Antec Super Lanboy ($87)
  • Power Supply – Antec Trio 650W ($126)
  • Keyboard – Logitech G11 ($60)
  • Mouse – Logitech G5 ($46)
  • Speakers – Logitech Z4 or Sennheiser PC-165 ($80)
  • Display – Viewsonic VX2235VM ($349)
