Today Nikon officially unveiled the D40, a new budget DSLR definitely worth a look. Nikon has finally stopped upping the megapixel count and has left the D40 alone with a 6MP CCD, which is plenty enough for pictures from your family vacation, or the web. The D40 also has a 3200 ISO rating, which in lamens terms means terrific low light performance.
The D40 uses SD cards, which is nice, as many people have these laying around from other cameras and gadgets. Additional features include; in camera retouching of red eye and shadow and highlight enhancement, among others. The D40 packs all of this into a tiny body and manages to fit a huge 2.5″ LCD on it. All of this for the astonishingly low price of $599.

can you tell me, when was the nikon D40 released in america, as my friend tell's me he bought one the end of august 2006 and came back to the UK with it in september. i thought the lelease date was november.
