Well, the 360 beats the ps3 clearly in the vid card section of life. yet the ps3 takes over when it comes to harnessing the RAM power and processing power. In the end, the 360 will have better graphics in small areas, yet the ps3 will be able to render more things smoothly with better framerates. Im not a fanboy of either, cuz i own both, and both systems have there pros and cons.

As far as the Windows OS goes, then in the form of a Media Center it would be ideal to have it on the PS3 so more formats are playable..
But then again you can put vlc player on linux OS. So its more to do with it having a better gui. which makes it look more appealing.. Plus networking will be easier..

Heck of a system, not surprised it can do this. And to everyone compairing the 360 and ps3, they both have their strengths and weaknesses, it really comes down to prefrences. Blu Ray does rock and for features the PS3 does almost everything the 360 does and more.
The main reason I'd want Windows XP on my ps3 would be to be able to play all of my emulators on the same hardware as my most-used console. Especially since I've downloaded every single rom that was on a certain romsite. Think about emulation with wireless controllers! Now that's cool.
That would be so great to be able to play everything on one system. Then you don't have to keep disconnecting and hooking up systems.
And Windows supports a lot more emulators than Linux does. Maybe some adjustments can be made on Windows to speed it up.
You should know, you can play any video file you have on the ps3's own OS. All you have to do is run your file through "Any Video Converter" (a program I found on download.com which works on Windows XP). Then import it to your system. This way you can just convert your .rm and other strange file formats to mpeg format. There are also other converters for unusual sound formats.
Now about those console wars… What a waste of time. Just buy all the systems like I do so you can play everything that's out. There are always a number of titles that are exclusive to one system. I've been doing that and I already have 37 systems and a massive collection of approximately 700 real video games. And I'm just a lower middle class 20 year old!

I'm a Final Fantasy freak as well, so thats another point for the PS3. I will own both in time, but the PS3 strikes my attention more at the moment.
I had a xbox360 iloved all the games on there and found it in my opion better then te ps3 which my brother bough but we both got our styems back in dec 2006 and i had to send my xbox360 in as it had the 3red lights flashing it took 11 weeks to get my new back i got it sept 20 2007 and had the same thing happen 2 days ago now i brough it back to the store got most my money back and bought a ps3. as my brother has had np with his. I an a unix guy… however, you have to run windows to be able to do Netflix "watch it now". I do this on my 19 inch widescreen monitor and movies and old TV shows look GREAT. I would love to run "watch it now" on my 46 inch Sony, but Netflix requires (see why later) windows for the viewer. Anyone ever do this and if so, how is the picture. I have connected up my notebook to my 46 inch sony (through the PC input) and the picture is a little blurry. I wonder if I load XP on my PS3 if it will look good. BTW- Now I know why Netflix watch it now won't run on my PS3 browser. Today they announced a $300 box that does just that. This would be a huge benefit of PS3 if we could have Netflix "watch it now".

The reason XP is running so slow is that its being ran through an emulator via Linux. The actual processor is not being dedicated to the XP OS, rather, a program within Linux is calling XP. Using a forum such as this Linux/XP issue to compare PS3 and the XBox is a terrible idea. The PS3 is more of a dev's cup of tea (On a whole different playing field than a PC, try getting a desktop with the core capabilities of a PS3 that has Linux support per its uniqueness ). And the XBox is definitely more for the hardcore gaming.
I have both a ps3 and a 360…(a wii too!), and I have to say that they all have strengths and weaknesses. I think xbox live is by far the online experience that every console should try and achieve and use as a standard, while sony and nintendo's are mediocre. PS3 has a ton of sweet games(exclusives), and is in fact an extremely powerful machine. heres what sony did right over ms. 1.) included wireless controllers as a standard with built in batteries that you didnt have to pay for (with a charger). 2.) built in wireless with the system 3.) blu ray player 4.) better looking, quieter system with less moving parts that can break 5.) lol RED RINGS enough said. but yo xbox 360 still is awesome.

PS3 rocks….plus I have a PSP and being able to go on the internet while I walk around, check my email and download porn and search the web. its fantastic. Sony…good stuff man.

well to say the least i agree. All systems have strengths and weaknesses that can be exploited. But why argue get them all to play the exclusives each has to offer and for the rest ps3 is the way to go. But lets stop and think about somethin me and my friends came up with…. a combo off all the great systems…dubly named the wiistation. Just imagine full sensitivity to fully feel like ur in the game… wii controller, the graphics and processing of the ps3… amazing graphics and real time intelligent AI. And the online play of the Xbox… all the downloads u could dream of….Sweet…Tear drops.
oh yeah and heres a look at a game for this wiistation. Oblivion type game….U have to defend a keep from invading orcs….U walk over to a guard via wii remote. To initiate talking to him u must move the remote like ur touching someone on the shoulder….okay ps3 time. He turns and says what is ur orders? u talk to him via headset in real life and and give him ur orders…the ps3 processor allows for this type of feedback when fully utilized. He follows ur orders literally…so if u say stand on ur head thats what he attempts to do…lol… okay the graphics is 360/ps3 style so they're beautiful…. okay so u tell him stop playin and defend the north tower. He goes and does it. Now here comes the fun part. The orcs begin their attack climbing into the keep. Now wii style u hack and slach ur oppenents with ur wpn or theirs. using different button combos andcontroller movements allows for combos and short long rand switching. And this is the opening of the game….Swweeet…the future is near.

I think its ridiculous that people bash other systems. For some reason someone sticks to some particular system and then all of the sudden becomes hardheaded and wont listen to reason. Point blank, try every system out, and I dont mean go to gamestop and try what they have because you cant use all features and the games they have in the system might suck. Right now I have every system and every one has something that pisses me off. Heres my logic in all of it and if you have a freaking brain at all you would see the truth in it…… before I say anything Microsoft itself (I am not talking about systems right now) is a total f#$@ing piece of s#$t. None of their s#$t works right. Anyhow back to systems. XBox has the best selection of all the games and better exclusives for their system, but their system is the biggest pile of crap ever made. (red ring of death, flimsy disk tray, cheap look and feel to it). PS3 has pretty much no good exclusives (soon to change hopefully) their game line up is lacking greatly (there are some good quality games though) but their system is quality made with many features. Wii also has a good system but bad graphics in todays lineup and almost all their games are shovelware or some casual kid targeted peice of crap, and their interactiveness that everyone goes crazy about gets old after an hour. So there if you really think about it all that I said is true. Now I dont mean that there arent some good games for either one of the systems or that there are no systems that dont break for either one but just do some d$#n research. All my gaming goes to Xbox and PS3. My wii gets played at most an hour a week because I have beat all decent games for it (zelda, metroid, smash bros, etc) and most of their stuff looks horrible and is crap. I play the 360 and PS3 an equal amount except for if the xbox gives me a problem like usual so then the time is only on ps3 or if I am tired of the games for ps3 and there are no decent new ones out then my time is devoted to xbox. I see the wii as a filler gaming system. I suggest having that one only as a system to play if you are on a time limit and can only play something for like 15 minutes then get it. (and thats exactly what I use it for)

yeh 360 blows…7 processors in the ps3 as opposed to 3 in the 360. pay respects to the more modern system. X box may have launched a whole year earlier. but that just means the ps3 had an extra year to prep its system. you think sony didnt rip apart an x box 360 to findout what they needed to do to make it better? thats why the launched the elite…well it still blows/ clocked way slower
okay the 360 is obviously cheaper, but i got both anyways, 360 first as it was released a lot sooner. the ps3 runs games a lot smoother, win xp on it isnt as fast as promised but the yellowdog linux runs amazingly fast for a console. again my computer core2 duo runs it a lot a lot faster but w/e its manageable. it actually was very easy to install, and turns on a lot faster than my pc so i preferr using it at times. in addition my xbox has redringed about 4 times. i have figured out the new "damp towel" cooling method, but hate having to let it overheat for 30 minutes every 2 days. ps3 was said to overheat a lot more, as you may have heard, theoversized toaster, and thats false. im actually typing this from my ps3 which has been running for about 96 hours, as i do not really turn it off since i have xp i can use sleep mode which is basically what it has anyways, making it turn on fast but w/e. they both have their ups and downs, 360 was amazing for its time, but its time is over. it was a fantastic system back then but all good things must come to an end, and ps3 is definately better for now. the new xbox will prbobly be twice as fast as ps3 and will be a lot better, but until then ps3 is better. its just newer. thats it. not that xbox engineering isnt great.btw wii sucks, i got it also and other than the opera web browser its just plain boring ad childish well, the interaction is mildly entertaining, but will we not get a formattable system to compete with sony and microsoft from nintendo? the company has been dropping quality in recent years and honestly nintendo 64, though a cartridge game was a lot smoother, and had far better game design than playstation but in recent years nintendo has really let themselves go, like a supermodel who gets married and gets fat. shame on you nintendo shame on you. especially with stock selling for 15 times as much as sony and microsoft.

i understand were all of you guys are coming from with this xbox vs ps3 conversation, but i have both of the consoles, and both of them are out standing consoles but the ps3 does beat the 360 in nearly all ways, i got the ps3 slimline for xmas and tried to run the windows xp on it, it soon worked it only took afew hours i love it

the playstation may have more power on paper. but its to difficult to fully use. even if Game developers find a way, the next set of consoles will be more powerful.

the ps3 is clearly better than the xbox 360…i actually own both and they both cpst exactly the same when you finish setting it up. first of all, the ps3 is 400 and the xbox 360 is 350. but with the xbox 360 you need to get xbox live or theres no point. so when you buy a year of xbox live its $400 total. ok then 2 weeks later you get the red rings of death so then you need to send it to microsoft and wait the year to get it back and finish the warranty….lol. anyways the ps3 is faster and better. it may be huge but it looks so sexy. also the ps3 just came out so it still doesnt have the best games out there. oh and if you want to watch decent videos for xbox 360 you would need to buy the hd-dvd player so another $100. and if you prefer wi-fi its another $100. so when it comes down to it, the ps3 is the better buy.

Well… I had a ps3 was great, them i listened to some microsoft dorks and got a 360.. I had it for 2 weeks i got 7 new games.. Didn't matter what games i got at the end of it all the 360 really sux! I gave it away and now i have my beautiful SONY PS3 BACK!

n00bs… The Xbox 360 has an ATI manufactured card built on their Radeon 9xxx series (with no physics chip), where as the PS3 has a custom made nVidia RSX chipset built on the Geforce 86xx series WITH an integrated nVidia PhysX chip, as well as an IBM-made 8-cell (7 active) processor, versus the Xbox's Dual Core setup. What this means is that the PS3 outperforms the XBox hardware wise, period. Now in terms of quality gaming, both consoles have their perks, and in terms of other features, PS3 takes the cake with free online play, integrated hard drive, BluRay, and Wifi, all of which are ADDITIONAL CHARGES on Microshaft's side of things. And I own both consoles, so I can bitch about both of them. And I hate the PS3 controller layout.
