In an effort to offer better services, the Brooklyn Public Library (that’s Brooklyn, NY) is hoping to strike a deal to let anyone in the area with a library card take out Netflix movies. Sure, you can already head to the library, step over people browsing through the stacks and maybe find something released three years ago tucked behind the Mr. Bean collection and take it out for free, but using Netflix for home delivery would be far more convenient. It would be part of an initiative to offer home delivery of all the library’s materials.
Again, they are hoping to strike a deal. According to the NY Post article, a Netflix spokesperson wasn’t aware of the partnership.
If the library is willing to pay Netflix to let people get free home delivered movies, imagine how many more people would go get library cards. It’d also free up shelf space for printed materials and likely cut back on the need to expand to accommodate all the new, incoming DVDs.
