The Zune Marketplace just hit 3 million tracks available. This is actually an interesting story considering it was not really announced by Microsoft, you would think hitting the 3 million available mark would be a milestone.
And by Microsoft didn’t announce I mean ClicZune just digged this up earlier from the Microsoft’s press release about Gallo South Africa partnership:
Zune is Microsoft’s music and entertainment platform that provides an end-to-end solution for Connected Entertainment. The Zune experience includes a 30GB digital media player, the Zune Marketplace music service, and a foundation for an online community that enables music fans to discover new music. Zune Marketplace offers for purchase more than 3 million song titles, ranging from popular hits to leading-edge new music.
They are still about 2 million tracks shy of the iTunes Store which sits at just over 5 million, though it’s still pretty impressive considering the short time that the Zune Marketplace has been available. Even as a long time Apple and iPod user I am comfortable saying that with just a bit of work the Zune could be a great player.
