Once a company offers a better deal its just a matter of time before others will follow, which is good news for us consumers. It seems we not only have a format war but also a pricing war. Toshiba is now upping the stakes by offering a $100 in store instant rebate (yes instant rebate) on any HD DVD player that is purchased from May 20th through June 16th. That would put a purchase price at just $299. If I were ready to commit to a next generation format this may have been enough to entice a purchase.
