Sony Bendable OLEDIf Sony’s super thin OLED TVs have got you drooling about the thought of having one, here’s an invention that will probably make that drool flow out like a waterfall: Sony has shown off a concept of a 2.5” wide, 0.01” thin, bendable OLED display at SID (Society for Information Display). A video demoing the item is available on YouTube. Just about the size of a large watch these days, it seems perfect to be worn on the wrist, as the YouTube video shows.

The display is put on a plastic based layer instead of glass, allowing it to be twisted and turned without images breaking up. The OLED technology delivers a 1000:1 contrast ratio in a QVGA (160×120) resolution at the moment.

Sony has not provided any dates for when this will be available on the market. From the demo, it really looks as if this is already working fine, with images being displayed wonderfully even while the screen is being twisted and crunched. Once this comes out, it would really do wonders for gadgets, especially in terms of reducing thickness, and allowing more flexible design to be put in.
