Blockbuster started offering next generation rentals last November by offering 40 Blu-ray titles and 40 HD DVD titles in 250 of its retail stores but now just over 6 months later Blu-ray has won, at least for Blockbuster. According to Blockbuster 70% of consumers are renting Blu-ray instead of HD DVD and that has helped Blockbuster to decide to expand its next generation offerings with Blu-ray titles only. Starting next month Blockbuster will begin to offer Blu-ray in 1450 stores and while the plan to continue carrying the HD DVD titles they will remain only in the original 250 stores and not be expanded on.
