Sling Media and CBS 5 announced a partnership that will deliver live, remote on-the-go broadcasts. With the combination of Slingbox technology, 3G wireless data and still video cameras CBS 5 will be able to deliver both live and still video feeds as well as live in-car broadcasts from the San Fransisco Bay Area.
“On April 30, 2007, for the first time ever in television, CBS 5 used Slingbox technology to send a signal back to the station for broadcast from a moving vehicle. As a result, we were able to watch our reporter’s progress as she drove through rush-hour traffic in areas affected by the I-580 freeway collapse on April 29. This is another example of the way digital technology is changing television news to the benefit of viewers,” said Dan Rosenheim, vice president and news director of CBS 5.
CBS 5 currently has 28 live cameras around the Bay Area, locations include seven of the Bay Area bridges, major thoroughfares and airports. The live video will be used on-air and also made available on the CBS 5 website. The live still views from the 28 cameras will be available over the internet and can be viewed from any computer of device connected to the internet.
