Nintendo’s Senior Vice President of Marketing George Harrison has announced the Game Boy trademark will be retired. He went on to say that “it’s hard to say in the future if we will ever bring back the Game Boy trademark”. The Game Boy products will remain around for a little while longer, it will be a slow transition with less marketing attention towards the Game Boy this upcoming year.
While every “end of era” seems sad to those that have seen it all, this is just the end of the Game Boy name and not mobile gaming. After all it has been a while since a Game Boy model was released and the DS line is keeping Nintendo’s portable gaming going strong.
