Aimed at the parents “looking to capture and re-live their children’s back-to-school memories” and available on pre-order from 23rd August ($300) at Sony Style, this 8 megapixle, 10 x optical zoom is packaged nicely as you would expect from Sony and packs a serious amount of features.

Features that catch the eye are:

  • Built in slide show function
  • Long range flash
  • Face detection technology
  • Sports Shooting Mode
  • Super Steady Shot

As you would also expect from Sony, it “works best” when viewing back home on a Sony BRAVIA HDTV, with a Sony high definition component cable ($40), especially for those families wanting to watch in full 1080 HD. To be fair you can’t hold that against any manufacturer and neither are required to get great images off the camera.

Personally I have always liked the Sony digital cameras, in fact I still own two. If I was in the market for another “point and shoot” I would certainly take a look at this one.
