Rumor: Picture of supposed 3G iPod Nano materializes

Today, a photo cropped up depicted the supposed 3rd generation of Apple’s iPod Nano. This revision involves shortening the length of the device, while the screen size grows to make video playback, a new feature in these new iPods, easier. Basically, this purported Nano will be a stocky version of the 5(.5)G iPod.

As you can obviously see, the DAP will have the same mini click wheel that the current Nano sports; depressed center button, and all. The front of the iPod is Aluminum and, like the 2G Nano, comes in an array of colors: Black, Silver, Pink, Green, and Blue.

Before we go ahead and debunk this as fake, take this into account; reports have been flying around 16GB flash-based iPods being producing in Taiwan.

If this turns out to be real, Apple would most likely announce it at next month’s Paris Expo.

Okay, debunking time. For starters, this iPod looks an awful lot like the picture Gizmodo threw together depicted the iPod Touch; key words being “threw together”. Also, you clearly see that whoever made/took this image had it open in Photoshop (on a Mac, if I may add), in .psd format. Last time I checked, there is no commercial camera that takes pictures directly to Adobe’s proprietary format.

  1. You know how I know with 100% accuracy that this is NOT what the iPod nano will look like? Because it is as ugly as hell! Apple doesnt do ugly.

Black, Silver, Maroon, Blue and Green? I dont think so. No nano mix would exclude Pink a perennial favorite.

Also, if this is to be a new nano, look at the size of the screen in relationship to the size of the scroll wheel. Assuming the nano screen stays the same size–and why would you make it larger–the click wheel would be the size of a dime. Not very ergonomic.

Gonna have to throw the red Fake Challenge Flag on this one.
