The long term health risks associated with the use of mobile (cell) phones, is about to start up again the UK where ministers are about to launch a multi million pound study into the long term effects on health.

This is somewhat surprising given that a Government committee is scheduled to announce their research showing “no proven health hazards associated with mobiles.” The driver behind the new research is the chairman, Professor Challis, who believes that because cancers can take up to 10 years to develop 200,000 volunteers should be monitored for 5 years. Other diseases to be monitored include Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Previous reports have concluded that “those who had used a mobile for 10 years or more had double the risk of developing a glioma (a central nervous system tumor) and were 2.4 times more likely to be diagnosed with a tumor on a nerve connecting the ear to the brain.”

In the meantime a precautionary principle is continued to be advised:

“Cars should be fitted with external antennas, people should use hands-free kits and children should only make calls in emergencies.”

  4. There has been much talk about how harmful it is and all that. I think the most important thing that should be done now is to make sure that new ways should be found in making it less harmful.

  5. I think it is time people stop beating around the bush, the best way to go forward is to make sure that we be strong and also at the same time be more confident and be scientifically backed. If they are bad, fine say they are bad, but no maybe stuff.

  7. Of course cellphones are harmful. Anything is harmful if not used judiciously. I strongly feel that as long as we restrict our usage of cell phones and do not get carried away, we should do just fine. The best way to do this would be to spread awareness about the dangers of the cellphone.

  8. I feel that the main problem is that there are many people saying cellphones are harmful. However, there are an equal number of people saying that it is only a myth. People just don't know who to believe. And since the cell phone has become a necessity in their lives, they just continue using it until proof of it being harmful arises.
