You may recall that the Sansa View was first showcased at January’s CES, so it has taken some time to get to the market. That is because in June SanDisk re-scoped the product to ensure it had a feature set more relevant to todays market.

Fundamentally a MP3 player, the View carries all the hallmarks of the Sansa range, notably the 2.4″ screen, smooth scroll wheel, 20 digital FM presets, integrated microphone and voice recording and audiobooks. Available in 8GB ($149.99) or 16GB ($199.99) it should be available in early fall in the US and then other regions shortly after that.

A really good feature is the ability to add a SanDisk microSD/microSDHC to increase the capacity to 24GB, and the microSD will work with cell phones and other mobile devices.

“The Sansa View is a new video MP3 player that combines all of the great characteristics of a MP3 player with the video capabilities of a PMP, and packs it into a pocketable device,” said Eric Bone, vice president of marketing for SanDisk’s Sansa audio/video product line. “What’s more, we’re once again showing that category-leading technology can still be very affordable.”

Primarily a MP3 player the video player makes it easy to transfer your videos from a variety of applications. “Most popular formats are supported via embedded player functionality (H.264, WMV and MPEG4), or via a one-time software download of the Sansa Media Converter which quickly transcodes numerous video files, including DivX.”
