If someone wanted me to part with $540 for a set of headphones they would have to come up with some remarkably cool ‘phones, or a particularly compelling justification for the price. Sony has had a good go with their PFR-V1′s, which are “actually two mini speakers” that are said “to mimic an extravagant audio setup.”
Now that really makes them non-headphones then, as anyone else can listen in on your music, so for $540 I can strap a couple of speakers to my head!
So the case for the defense is they look cool, cost a lot so should be great quality, are unique and have a gold mini plug. The case for the prosecution – they look stupid and will upset everyone that you happen to be around that doesn’t want to listen to your music.
Conclusion? The $540 stays in my pocket, well it would if I had $540 in the first place.
