Google has added IMAP support for Gmail! The current POP access was great, but IMAP is a lot more convenient especially for anyone who checks their mail on multiple devices. With an IMAP connection you can now make changes to the mail status and have them take effect across all your devices. Meaning when you are out and about and check your mail on your smartphone you will not have a bunch of duplicate emails when you get back to your desktop or laptop.
You will have to enable the IMAP support in your settings, just login to your Gmail account and go to “Settings”, then click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”, then under “IMAP Access” just click to “Enable IMAP”. After you enable IMAP in your Gmail account you will have to update your settings in your various mail clients. The IMAP support is being rolled out to all Gmail members in stages so its possible your account may have not gotten the support yet, but they all should be included within the next few days. Gmail also has a nice help page with some additional configuration support.
