Magellen Roadmate 1200

Interestingly enough, there have been some reports regarding a Magellan Roadmate 1200, yet it isn’t featured on the Magellan website. Since it is not there, some think that it may have been made specifically for Black Friday. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with much eye opening goodies.

Basically, it features a 3.5-inch anti-glare touchscreen and uses Centrality Atlas II GPS receiver instead of the oh so popular SiRF Star III receiver. Additionally, it boasts 1.3 million points of interest, with maps of the continental US, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Lastly, it comes with voice guidance and QuickSpell, which helps prevent letter errors when entering an address.

If you are looking for a pretty basic and cheap GPS, then this one is for you, as it only costs $200.

  1. FYI, Centrality is now owned by SiRF, and so this Magellan utilitzed a SiRF Atlas II system-on-chip (SoC), which provides not just GPS, but graphics and media support as well.

  2. I bought the RoadMate 1200 at Circuit City yesterday. Tomtom One 3rd Ed. was my first choice, but had quickly sold at Staples, and decided to buy the RoadMate 1200.

So far everything is working great. All the trips I made since I bought it were mapped perfectly. I noticed in Simulation mode that the map seems to slow for a minute or two sometimes, not sure what's that about, but during actual trips it hasn't happened for more than a few seconds. Has SD card, but no traffic delays on this one, but it wasn't something I had to have. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars overall, but 5 out of 5 stars for price at only $124.00.
