In what can only be called bizarre, the much loved/hated Verizon will make an announcement this morning regarding the enhancement of their services. This enhancement will include the ability to use devices and application not sold by the company on their network. It only begs the question, what do they know that we don’t?
The 10am Eastern call will lay out the ground work for what will be approved and a approval route for devices to become approved. These approved devices will be allowed access to the Verizon network. This “bring-your-own” thinking is intriguing to say the least. Are we looking at a preamble for VOIP integration? Or perhaps laying the groundwork for a wireless internet device that could be released at Macworld?
“This is a transformation point in the 20-year history of mass market wireless devices – one which we believe will set the table for the next level of innovation and growth,” said Lowell McAdam, Verizon Wireless president and chief executive officer.
