Monitor for the colorblind

Have you ever wondered about the perfect gift for that loved one on your gift list who can’t seem to discern yellow from blue and green from orange? No, well, maybe that’s because the time was never right and now it is. Believe it or not, there are almost 200 million people in the world that are thought to be color blind and more than 10 million of them live in the United States, where colors are free to pursue their primary happiness.

Welcome Eizo’s new monitor from Japan designed especially for the color-blind. The FlexScan system, which will allow color-blind individuals to “see” the graphic displays on its 24-inch LCD panel, is a brilliant and unique marketing feature. Using the principles of Color Universal Design, the Eizo monitor helps those who can’t discern differences in color via techniques like lighting, shapes, positions, patterns and labeling.

The FlexScan SX2461W-U has all the standard monitor trimmings, including two DVI inputs and a USB hub. It’s price in the words of the immortal Jackie Gleason is way beyond “a mere bag of shells” at $1,250. This is the current price in Japan, but it appears that Dell has imported older models from the parent company in the past, which means they may be purchased more cheaply through them in the not so distant future. The same thing is available in software and it is called Eye-Pilot.
