Orders continue to come in for the OLPC, albeit slowly. In the past Uruguay has already placed an order for their 100,000 laptops and now its Peru. Placing an order for well over the previous order, Peru ordered 260,000 laptops at a price of $188 per laptop.
While orders have been slow up to this point, Nicholas Negroponte, was excited by the order from Peru as he believes that it will help other orders come in because of “momentum.”
In addition to the large order from Peru, Carlos Slim who is an old friend to Negroponte and has “been involved in this from the beginning,” placed an order for 50,000 laptops that will be distributed in Mexico.
Aside from these large bulk orders we have also seen the OLPC offered in the “Give One Get One” program.
