Microsoft has some good news regarding Windows Vista. Based on data from Windows Genuine Advantage validation failures along with other internal data, it appears that Vista is being pirated at rate of half that of XP. According to Microsoft this is because Vista is simply better at detecting and preventing counterfeit copies. Of course they have also admitted that counterfeit rates are hard to measure.

Possibly this was at least part of the reason behind their recent decision to drop the ‘kill switch’ from the operating system.

  1. Could it be that one of the reasons fewer people are pirating Vista is because of a perception that it is not as good as XP?

  2. Who would bother pirating Vista? Lots of people are using XP instead, probably more than use Vista, so no wonder there's more piracy of XP than Vista.
