LG Rumor: Debug menu corrected

The LG Rumor issue has been quickly and quietly corrected. The debug menu issue where the phone was able to be wiped and turned into a paperweight was fixed. Originally thought to have affected all, or at least a great number of LG Rumor’s turned out to only affect a small number of handsets.

It turns out that the Rumor was also never taken off the shelf and sales continued, however the phone itself is just selling so well that they are having a hard time keeping it in stock.

We are pleased to report that sales of Rumor by LG have exceeded our expectations. We knew would be a popular product and had every confidence in it, but the actual sales have far exceeded our projections. For this reason, we are facing inventory issues. We are working closely with our LG partners to get inventory levels back up and are hopeful that this will be available for our customers soon. This inventory issue does impact both colors. Let me also confirm that Sprint did identify a small technical error with this product that impacts a very low percentage of potential customers. A correction was addressed, please note that this issue has in no way impacted our inventory for this product – the two issues are separate and the issue was corrected with a simple fix as it was identified by Sprint. Sprint continues to have every confidence in this device and we are pleased to see such a strong response from our customers. – Michelle

  1. The following is an update from Sprint regarding the Rumor by LG:

Sprint is pleased to offer an over-the-air software upgrade for those customers who have purchased one of our newest consumer phones, Rumor by LG. This free software upgrade will provide important updates to text messaging and enhance the user experience. There are two simple ways to obtain the software update. Your can initiate the update yourself by following this path on your phone, main menu>settings/tools>tools>update firmware. If you prefer, you can also go to a Sprint retail location for assistance in updating your phone software. Sprint believes in being proactive about providing updates to our products to ensure the best user experience. While we have confidence in the quality of this device, we do encourage Rumor users to take advantage of this simple over-the-air upgrade to ensure that your Rumor by LG is performing at its best.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
