Cyber crime targets social networking sites

We have already reported that 2007 was the year of the Cyber Criminal, but fresh on the heals of that report we are now hearing that 2008 will be the year that cyber thieves target the social networking sites.

“The quasi-intimate nature of the sites makes people share information readily leaving them open to all kinds of other attacks, warn security firms.”

Two main reasons for this targeting include:

1. The technologies involved.
2. The third party applications.

Which can both lead to a possible compromise in your data. As ever the trick is to be vigilant and careful. No longer are people just trying to infiltrate your system just to exploit and gain control of your PC, they are now trying to get you to click on links and share your information.
