Remember ET? He phoned home using a contraption built around a crappy Speak-n-Spell. If you’ve bought a telephone for your landline recently, your choices haven’t changed much since ET was in theaters. Once “the” hub where you hung out in the kitchen for hours talking and untwisting the phone cord in the 70s, home phones now sits there dejected like a pair of sneakers you save only for mowing the lawn. Why has tech passed over the lowly house phone?
Are you carriers paying attention? I’d think you’d throw some money into R&D for these phones before we all give them up and go cell-only. Surely you are concerned about losing that absurd $30 a month just for a landline. Perhaps it is time for landlines in homes to go the way of the dodo, see femtocell.
The phones we can choose from are stupid. Voice dialing? HA! Can I download contacts to my phone? Can I add in wav files or create my own ringtones? WiFi Skype? Throw me a frickin bone here. I can do all this with my cell phone, that is a necessity for me; my home line, not so much.
Here is mine. I just bought it about 4 months ago. I hate it. The ringtone options were designed by a guy named Rick Diculous (read that again if you didn’t get it). Seriously, this is the best we got? It’s only saving grace is the stand looks like a big iPhone (and was probably the deciding factor between this and the vTech). Remembering folks phone numbers and dialing are so…so 1992. Come on.
Anyone have a landline phone for the home they actually like?

I ditched my land line when I got my iPhone. I am paying a bit more for my cellular service now but it is still less than I would pay for an additional land line. I said buh-bye to Ma Bell.
I pay 20 bucks a month for a land line and that's it. I don't care what the phone looks like. It's not a toy, it's communication.
It NEVER cuts out and always works.
I don't understand the big cell phone deal. I don't care to watch small videos and I don't care to be able to be reached every second of my life.
Cell phones suck. They're rude and a waste of money.
Oh I've been down that road before. The constant texting, the constant calling, and wondering where the hell it is when I go out. Enough of that. I take my wallet and keys.
Girls have purses and like to talk a lot so I can see why they might use them.
