It is a while since we told you about the MiniCAT, but now we have the OneCAT, costing just £2,500 ($5,000), weighing 350kg, and running on Air!

Well we don’t exactly have it yet as it is a proof of concept, but an engineer is promising to bring the car, powered by compressed air, to the market within the year.

So what do we know about air compressed powered cars…

  • The tanks can be filled with air from a compressor in just three minutes – much quicker than a battery car.
  • Alternatively, it can be plugged into the mains for four hours and an on-board compressor will do the job.
  • For long journeys the compressed air driving the pistons can be boosted by a fuel burner which heats the air so it expands and increases the pressure on the pistons. The burner will use all kinds of liquid fuel.

Naturally there is no MPG, but the equivalent on a long journey would be 120 mpg! I would actually like one of these to run around in, especially as it claims to seat five people.

  1. Yes, it's a real car. Three generations of putting gas in the car makes people think that these can't be "real cars". When I talk with people only 1/10 can believe it's real… the rest are kinda in a state of denial.

I created a fan website http://www.CATvolution.com, where people can help raise awareness of these vehicles.
