SD Cards got you confused? SDHC? SD? Class?SD cards are increasingly becoming part of consumer electronics. A big problem is finding the right SD card for your gadget. Most people have no concept of gigabytes, let alone SD card classes. Kingston is looking to make SD cards more consumer-friendly. I got a chance to speak to a representative at Kingston and he let me in on their plans.

They are looking to add information to their packaging indicating that their cards can record a certain amount of video. It would present information like any other recordable media. Kingston’s last problem is that at current capacities, the cards hold an odd number of minutes. As an example, Kingston tested one of their cards and it held 57 minutes of video.

Consumers are used to seeing the capacity of recordable media in round numbers, especially for video. Obviously, they can’t market it as an hour because it is not an hour of capacity. Once Kingston figures out how to present the capacity information expect some new packaging helping out the average person.
