Bugs crawling out of T-Mobile Android phone?

Today, T-Mobile proudly launches the G1 Android phone nationally in the US. Although many customers received their G1 days ago, the super phone will be available in select retail stores starting today. But how is it going?

A quick look over in the forums at T-Mobile and I am surprised to see what appears to be loads of bugs. Here is what owners of the phones are saying:

“I think it’s safe to say they should have delayed the release to get this right…”
“Everyone is looking for apps to take care of the shortcomings and errors, but I just feel as if the phone should have been shipped ready to rock.”
“For a phone that was supposed to be called ‘the dream’, i really don’t understand why i can’t get on aim or write a note…”
“I have tried setting up my phone for over 2 hours now.”

Interestingly, a number of users at the forum say they are upgrading from a Sidekick. I find this interesting as I never saw the G1 as the ultimate Sidekick, but these folks seem to.

Even with the issues that plague any first version phone, the G1 is sure to be the start of something big for Google. I wonder how many Gmail accounts are being created today?
