gmail tasksFinally, Google’s Gmail (still in Beta, grrrr) has added tasks for users today. Available in Google Labs, users can add tasks to their main e-mail screen and begin using the program right away. It is typical Google in every fashion.

What does typical Google mean? Simple. Users wishing to make an e-mail a task to complete need only hit shift + “T” and the task is created. The Tasks addition is a pretty bare bones offering but that is where Google finds success.

Gmail Tasks does allow you to add a due date and the Tasks appear in their own window, much like Chat. Also like Chat, Tasks can be made into its own window. Currently, I don’t see a way to access these tasks while mobile. A quick check of the iPhone optimized Google pages shows no Tasks. Given the past attention Google has paid to this area, I am sure we’ll see it soon.

This also sheds a bit more light on Google’s efforts to replace Microsoft Office part for part. Lacking Tasks was a big issue for folks like me who need reminders on what needs doing.

Give Tasks a try by clicking on the Labs tab in Settings in your Gmail.

  1. I love this feature, I've always wanted a way to write in little reminders for myself within my email account. I find Tasks more effective than using the calender.
