AT&T and Radio Shack have recently announced the availability of a 3G-equipped Acer Aspire One netbook for $99. Of course, that low price comes with a bit of a catch — in order to get that pricing you must be willing to sign up for an AT&T LaptopConnect account with a 2-year commitment. The Acer Aspire One that is available features an 8.9-inch display along with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive and is running Windows XP.
The Aspire One normally (without contract) retails for around $380. As far as the contract with AT&T, like I previously mentioned, that requires a 2-year agreement and there are plans beginning at $59.99 a month. If interested, be prepared to visit a Radio Shack location as this deal is available in-store only.
Personally, I think it is exciting that we are beginning to see these offers finally make their way to the US, but that said, I could not justify paying for such a limited 3G service. I would rather just sign up for a regular data plan with a USB modem that I could use on any notebook or netbook that I choose.
