How Samsung can fit all of their announcements into a 45 minutes press conference is amazing. If this is like previous years Samsung will be announcing new products across all categories: HDTVs, phones, cameras, camcorders, monitors, printers, portable audio, and maybe even some portable devices/netbooks to replace the Q1 line (maybe the rumored NC20).
We will get started in just a few minutes. Once the live blog starts you can refresh every minute or so by hitting F5 or Ctrl+R.

They are doing a bit of Q&A now, but we’ll consider this press conference complete (unless they answer anything groundbreaking).
The Samsung Palm Theater P3 portable audio player has a touch screen, widget support, and haptic feedback (it looks like the Omnia and likely is just without the cell capability).
The newest camera has a ultra wide angle lens and a 10x optical zoom. It captures HD video as well as it’s 10 megapixel camera.
Onto cameras/camcorders…
The HMX-H106 is a 1080p HD camcorder with a 64GB solid state hard drive — which is 12 hours of HD video on one drive.
HT-BD8200 is an all in one entertainment system/sound bar with an integrated Blu-ray player, virtual 5.1 surround sound, a wireless sub-woofer, Bluetooth and wireless enabled for Netflix and Pandora playback.
There will also be 6 new Blu-ray players. The BDP-4600 is the flagship player (and the slimmest – 1.5″): BD LIve support, 1080p, slot in mechanism, WiFi ready, 16GB internal drive for Netflix, wall mountable as well as having an integrated stand.
A new 22″ 3D monitor (with glasses).
The LCD 750 model also had a 240Hz refresh rate, a new color reproduction engine, DNLA wireless, and more.
The flagship model the 8000, has everything from the 7000, with a 240Hz refresh rate. It is designed with a chrome boarder.
The 7000 has USB 2.0, Internet@TV, DNLA Wireless, Content Library Flash, the Yahoo widget platform (eBay, Flickr). The model also has a new wall mount system that sits .6″ from the wall (as opposed to the 2″ of most models).
Samsung Luxia TV line: 6000, 7000, and 8000 models. They are LED based mercury free, super slim (just over 1″ thick)
Tim Baxter, Exec VP of Sales and Marketing has now taken the stage to present the 2009 product line-up.
They are now showing a video with consumer offering their thoughts on consumer electronics and what they should get out of them: nice design, eco friends, easier interface, etc.
Other unique UIs are coming in Camcorders (touch screen select to take a picture) and in the haptic feedback from the Samsung phones, like the Omnia (which also allows for widgets).
Last year Samsung introduced their Touch Of Color designs and will expand on them this year with the Samsung Luxia LED TV. This is the ‘slimmest’ tv with a built in tuner from 40″-55″. This TV will also have a consistent UI menu interface (ala Sony XMB), but looks to be more in a Apple fashion (you move right as you select items).
Samsung is a founding member of WirelessHD consortium and hopes to bring it into sets even more.
Nextflix and Pandora is also available across Samsung products and even without wires via DNLA wireless.
The UI for this seems very seamless, I’m just wondering how much this is actually needed. There are a million channels online to get weather, scores, and stocks as well as your phone or computer that is likely in your pocket or on your lap — why is this needed on your TV.
Samsung is introducing medi@2.0 with:
1. Content Library Flash – for games, pictures, recipes
2. Samsung Internet@TV with Yahoo integration (photos, news, weather, stocks…).
–> Yahoo Cinematic Internet is their goal to get content onto TV. They are working with many others to introduce TV widgets onto your tv.
–> This is being driven by the Yahoo Widget Engine, built on a open framework Konfabulator
Samsung has #1 cumulative TV market share for 3 years running and have won 46 CES Innovation Awards and 4 Best in Show awards — the most of any CE company.
Jon Woo Park has now taken the stage. He says Samsung’s strategy is based on 4c:
1.Contents
2. Creativity
3. Components
They want consumers to have a seamless experience and claim that they are more prepared than others to do this because of their product product portfolio. They are vertically integrated to leverage products.
And we’re getting started. David Steeles (spelling?) is on stage and will MC the press conference. He says that no matter the global economy Samsung will stay committed to innovation. Today they will share their vision of a digital consumer media experience.

And we are in the conference. They made a ’10 minute’ warning a few minutes ago, so I expect that there are just a few more min before we begin.
Doug and I will be taking the Samsung press conference. We’re out in the hall working until thing get rolling. Be back shortly.
