EchoStar 922

As DVR technologies expand, many companies are moving away from the traditional set top boxes and looking to give consumers a better viewing experience. EchoStar has announced at this year’s CES that it is introducing the world’s first placeshifting high definition DVR, the EchoStar 922.

The EchoStar 922 will both look and perform better than most current high definition digital video recording devices. The first major improvement will be a touch style remote. With this remote, you will control the DVR by rolling your thumb over the pad to scroll through different menu options. To make a selection, you will hit the trigger button.

Another appeal of the EchoStar 922 is that users will have the ability to watch their recorded shows via a broadband connection from anywhere in the world. Many DVR users now complain about the lack of space on their hard drive. With the EchoStar, you have a massive sized hard drive that can hold up to approximately 1,000 hours of digital recordings.

The user interface of the EchoStar 922 is more attractive as well. Instead of text descriptions, it makes use of movie posters images, widgets and RSS feeds to navigate the different program selections. Right now, DISH Network is the only provider that has signed up to offer the Echostar 922. However, it’s likely that other satellite and cable providers will soon add the device to their line up as well.
